We are seeking an experienced New York Title Officer & Underwriting Counsel to join our growing commercial title team. This role is at the heart of our operations, where you will manage, analyze, and clear titles for commercial real estate transactions throughout New York. You will serve as a key partner to attorneys, lenders, developers, and underwriters, ensuring that every closing is handled with precision and expertise.


Key Responsibilities
  • Transaction Management: Review title searches, commitments, surveys, and related documents for complex commercial real estate transactions across New York.
  • Risk & Clearance: Analyze reports to identify defects, liens, easements, and encumbrances. Evaluate underwriting risk and provide practical, creative solutions to resolve title issues.
  • Collaboration: Coordinate with internal teams, national underwriters, and external transaction participants (attorneys, lenders, surveyors) to facilitate timely and accurate closings.
  • Expertise: Interpret complex NY property records and prepare/review title commitments and endorsements in accordance with local title practices.
  • Service Excellence: Provide proactive, high-touch communication to clients, ensuring service expectations and critical deadlines are consistently met.
  • Compliance: Maintain accurate documentation and ensure all transactions align with company underwriting guidelines and industry best practices.
What You Bring
  • Experience: 5+ years of commercial title experience with a deep understanding of the New York market.
  • Technical Proficiency: Strong grasp of New York title insurance principles, title clearance, and commercial real estate documentation.
  • Analytical Ability: Proven capability to independently solve complex title matters.
  • Soft Skills: Strong written and verbal communication skills with a client-focused, collaborative approach. Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, multi-transaction environment.
  • Professional Background: A Juris Doctor (JD) is preferred but not required. Existing relationships within the NY commercial real estate or title industry are a significant asset.
