Job Description
The Safety & Compliance Coordinator is a key professional responsible for promoting a safe and healthy work environment within the organization. The primary function of this role is to design, implement, and oversee health and safety programs aimed at preventing accidents and protecting employee well-being. This position involves continuous interaction with various operational and administrative facilities, where risks are assessed and safe work practices are reinforced, ensuring compliance with OSHA and PR OSHA regulations.

Responsibilities
  • Ensure compliance with federal and local occupational health and safety regulations.
  • Conduct periodic safety inspections across multiple locations, including operational areas, terminals, warehouses, offices, and transportation zones.
  • Identify potential hazards and provide recommendations to mitigate or eliminate workplace risks.
  • Investigate accidents, incidents, and near misses, determining root causes and implementing corrective and preventive actions.
  • Design and implement accident prevention and occupational safety programs.
  • Coordinate and deliver employee training on safe work practices, use of personal protective equipment (PPE), and emergency procedures.
  • Monitor proper use of PPE and ensure safety equipment is available and in optimal condition.
  • Prepare safety reports for management, including recommendations and action plans.
  • Develop weekly safety checklists and maintain monthly reports on health and safety status at each location.
  • Maintain OSHA-required documentation and records related to workplace safety and incidents.
  • Develop proactive prevention methods to reduce risks in logistics operations.
  • Standardize safety policies and practices across all company locations.
  • Promote the establishment of a Safety Committee to encourage employee participation and strengthen a culture of prevention.
  • Design specific programs for hurricane season and ensure employee certifications are up to date (Forklift, HAZMAT, 10-hour, 30-hour).
  • Develop emergency response programs tailored to each location.
  • Evaluate and oversee safe practices in loading/unloading operations, material handling, and heavy equipment movement.
  • Ensure compliance with safety standards in the use of forklifts and industrial machinery, including inspections and training recommendations for operators.
  • Conduct risk assessments in warehouse areas, docks, and heavy vehicle traffic zones.
  • Develop safety procedures for load handling, fall prevention, and internal traffic control.
  • Coordinate training on warehouse safety, ergonomics, and safe material handling.
  • Evaluate safety conditions in transportation and logistics, including internal routes and parking areas.
  • Collaborate with operations managers to integrate safety practices into daily logistics and transportation operations.

Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field (preferred).
  • At least 2 years of prior experience in occupational health and safety, or in industrial, logistics, or operations settings.
  • 30 hours of OSHA training and knowledge of regulations
  • Ability to conduct inspections, risk assessments, and incident investigations.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and report-writing skills.
  • Availability to travel between company locations.
